Mayday! Mayday! Last Minute Beauty Treatments - Monday, May 04, 2009

If you are getting ready for fun in the sun, but are still feeling a lack of confidence about your appearance - don't despair. Although many plastic surgery procedures have longish recovery times - like a tummy tuck - or require multiple treatments - like Endermologie - to produce best results, there are some that can help you dramatically improve your appearance in a very short period of time.

The key to considering last-minute beauty treatments is to make reasonable goals. In most cases, treatments that have no recovery time and take effect immediately achieve real, noticeable, but limited results. The good news is, though, that they are generally so mild on the body that multiple treatments can be performed simultaneously or in rapid succession.

Injectable treatments like Botox Cosmetic or soft tissue fillers give essentially immediate results. You will want to stay out of the sun for about 24 hours after receiving a filler injection, and final results will be visible within a week of your injections. Results will last at least through the summer and up to six months.

Mild peels are a good way to smooth some superficial wrinkles, reduce the appearance of uneven skin tone, and give your skin a healthy glow. Mild peels remove some of the dead and dull skin that can increase your apparent age and contribute to wrinkles. Peels are traditionally facial procedures, but they can also be used on the legs, shoulders, and decollete (chest) to help your skin look younger and more vibrant. Microdermabrasion can achieve similar effects for many people.

All this is not to say that you shouldn't consider more significant procedures like tummy tuck, liposuction, or breast augmentation over the summer, just to say that if you want to show off your results next week, they are not the best choice. If, however, you have a special event or big vacation in the late summer or autumn, now's the time to start planning.
