Before you have any sort of cosmetic surgery performed, you first have to meet with your cosmetic surgeon. Although cosmetic surgery may be elective in most cases, it is still a medical procedure, so your cosmetic surgeon will need to be informed about your entire medical history. Depending on what cosmetic surgery procedure you are considering, you should inform your doctor about certain past surgeries or conditions:

• Abdominoplasty - If you're considering correcting your body contour with a mommy makeover or tummy tuck, you need to let your doctor know if you've ever suffered a hernia and undergone surgery to correct it.
• Liposuction - When considering liposuction, your doctor should know if youve had any serious weight losses or gains in the past. Your cosmetic surgeon should also know if you've had gastric bypass surgery in the past.
• Facial Procedures - When having a facial procedure like facelift or brow lift, your surgeon needs to know if you've had any facial cosmetic surgeries performed in the past.

While you may feel uncomfortable letting people know about your medical history, you should feel comfortable talking to your cosmetic surgeon. By informing your cosmetic surgeon of your medical history you will be able to avoid cosmetic surgery risks and complications.
