Understanding Body Type and Cosmetic Surgery - Monday, February 23, 2009
We have already talked on several occasions about how body type relates to fashion, and how cosmetic surgery can change your body type, and, therefore, change the types of clothes you can and should wear to look good. We have mostly used the traditional descriptors of body shape--apple, pear, hourglass, and ruler--assuming that our readers mostly understood what these meant.A quick refresher might be in order. Apple body types have wide shoulders and/or larger breasts that make them appear larger on top than on the bottom. Pear body types are the opposite: smaller breasts and wider hips, thighs, and buttocks. Hourglass shapes are women with balanced proportions of breasts and hips. Women with a ruler body shape are essentially flat up and down, with either because they lack large hips and significant breasts or because fat deposits around the waist make their body appear straight up and down. Cosmetic surgery can be used to change a woman from one body type to another. Breast augmentation can sometimes be used to change a pear into an hourglass, for example. Liposuction can be used to help some women with a ruler body shape achieve some curves.
Recently, a more complicated list of body shapes has become popular. This list of body shapes was developed by British fashionistas Trinny & Susannah and appeared in their 2007 book The Body Shape Bible. Essentially, they take each of the four traditional categories and fragment them into more refined categories. The pear is refined into pear, skittle (a Britishism for bowling pin), and bell, distinguished by both length of torso and the relative balance of breasts to hips and waist. Skittle-shaped women are likely to benefit from breast augmentation, while bell-shaped women might benefit more from liposuction to help define the waist or reduce the thighs.
Trinny & Susannah take into account more parts of the body, including thighs and calves. They also slightly redefine traditional categories. While the traditional descriptor "apple" is based on the image of the red delicious, which is narrow at the bottom and wide at the top, Trinny & Susannah use the term to describe a shape more like a Jonathan or McIntosh apple, which is wider in the middle. We may make reference to this expanded list of body types in the future, but we'll make sure we define what we mean when discussing body type.
At The Centre, P.C, we take into account all aspects of your body and appearance when making recommendations about cosmetic surgery. To get recommendations based on your actual body, schedule a cosmetic surgery consultation with us today.
Centre Your Relationship - Thursday, February 12, 2009
Last time we talked about plastic surgery for couples. This is a great way for couples to strengthen their relationship, but perhaps you are not ready for that level of commitment or don't feel that plastic surgery is the right way for you to go in your relationship. If this is the case, The Centre, P.C. still has many options that go beyond mere gifts to strengthen the love you feel for each other. In this category, men should think of things you can do together. Everything you do as a couple strengthens your relationship. Something like a massage can be the focal point for a day spent together. And trying something uncharacteristic can be very moving. You'll be amazed at how big an impact it makes when you consent to get a facial--and you'll be pleased at how good it feels, too.
Also good are periodic treatments like laser hair removal, which give you not one, but several opportunities to spend dedicated time together. Think about how much she'll appreciate not having to shave to keep her legs silky smooth and how much she'll appreciate running her hands over your smooth chest and back.
These gifts may not be as appreciated by men as by women, and when given by women they can seem pushy or demanding. But that's no reason why women can't get a little something "for him." Anything you do to make yourself feel happier and more confident can be an excellent starting place for a very special Valentine's Day.
And although most people think about romantic relationships on Valentine's Day, don't forget that these treatments are also good for strengthening other relationships, too. Haven't been able to get together much with your best friend? Call her up and invite her to get a facial. Want to reconnect with your mother? A massage is a perfect opportunity to spend time together in a stress-free space. And laser hair removal is an excellent way to spend some girl time with your sister.
The Centre, P.C. offers many opportunities for you to strengthen your relationship with those dearest to you. This is just a small sample. Contact us today to learn more about all your options to Centre your relationship.
Plastic Surgery for Couples - Monday, February 09, 2009
This Valentine's Day, give a gift not just for her or him, but for both of you, as a way of reaffirming your relationship. Undergoing plastic surgery together is an ideal gift for strengthening your relationship for both scientific and emotional reasons.Scientifically, there are good reasons for undergoing plastic surgery together. When psychologists researched the effect of appearance on relationships, one thing they discovered is that in selecting partners, people didn't choose the most attractive mate possible, but one they considered to be roughly equal in attractiveness to themselves. When couples maintain parity in this area, it can have the effect of people feeling they would choose the same partner again. It is partly for this reason that more and more men have been seeking plastic surgery, to maintain their sense of being as attractive as their wives who are looking better longer as a result of plastic surgery. But there is an even more important reason why plastic surgery for both of you makes an ideal gift for Valentine's Day.
What makes Valentine's Day gifts so hard to choose is that you are trying to pick something that represents your commitment to the relationship. Big objects, enduring objects, expensive objects are often chosen as the best gifts because they imply big and enduring commitment. But why not cut out the sign and give actual commitment? Committing to plastic surgery together is a way to reinvest in your relationship with something more valuable than mere money: your body and your self. This is especially true of couples for whom most of the big commitments of life are behind you--marriage, mortgage, and kids, for example. By committing to plastic surgery together, you are not just rejuvenating your appearance--you are rejuvenating your relationship.
If you would like to consider this unique way to reaffirm your enduring love this Valentine's Day, schedule a plastic surgery for couples consultation at The Centre, P.C. today.
Great Gifts for Valentine's Day - Monday, February 02, 2009
Because The Centre, P.C. is an inclusive practice, offering not just plastic surgery, but skin treatments and products and a full range of medical spa services, it is an excellent place to shop for gifts for your loved one for Valentine's Day. Gifts from The Centre, P.C. tell your beloved that you value her health and happiness, that you want her to look and feel her best. They can be very intimate gifts, bespeaking and reigniting sensuality, the kind of gifts that make this Valentine's Day not just another passing holiday, but a time to rejuvenate your bodies and your relationship.A great place to start is at our online store, where a number of cosmetics and therapeutic products are available. All the products in our store are selected because they are highly effective and enhance both beauty and health. This includes our own Centre Yourself line of cosmeceuticals, and mineral makeups like Colorescience and Jane Iredale. You can search for gifts by brand and by category.
In addition to premium beauty products, The Centre, P.C. offers top of the line services to help your beloved look and feel her best. From anti-aging treatments like facial peels and microdermabrasion--even BOTOX Cosmetic--to cosmetic treatments like Endermologie for cellulite to mind and body centering treatments like massages, we offer it all. In addition to their initial value as gifts, these treatments can act as focal points for special days spent together.
And, if you just don't know what to get, The Centre, P.C. offers gift cards that will allow her to pick for herself.
Of course, there is some risk in giving cosmetic procedures that your gift may be misinterpreted. While this is not a problem for cosmetics or massages, a gift of BOTOX Cosmetic might be taken as you saying that she looks old instead of you saying that you want her to look and feel her best. To avoid this, you might consider undergoing procedures together, as we will talk about in our next blog on cosmetic procedures for couples.
If you want to give your beloved a Valentine's Day gift that speaks to the depth of your love, visit our online store or contact us today.
