People Who Are Hurt By Rejection More Likely to Seek Cosmetic Surgery - Friday, July 31, 2009
A new study performed by professors and employees at the University of Buffalo in New York shows that people who have been rejected based on their physical appearance are more likely to be interested in plastic surgery. This may seem like common sense, but it shows just how important a plastic surgeon's job is.
Experienced plastic surgeons, like those at The Centre, P.C. in Elkhart and Chesterton, Indiana, listen to the problems and goals people want to achieve with their bodies. For someone considering plastic surgery after being rejected by another for physical reasons, the results of the plastic surgery need to be as good as possible.
During the study, 133 people were analyzed on their sensitivity toward appearance-based rejection. The study showed that men and women who were more sensitive about their appearance were also the people who were more interested in cosmetic surgery procedures.
One of the most interesting things about this survey is that it showed that women are not the only ones concerned with their appearance enough to have cosmetic surgery. Male cosmetic surgery is something many men consider when they've been rejected for the way they look.

Men Like What? Sorting Out The Science of Beauty - Monday, July 27, 2009
For many women considering plastic surgery at our Elkhart, Indiana plastic surgery office, the goal of their cosmetic surgery procedure is to provide them with a body contour that they want and others will find attractive. New studies, however, are making many women question what it is that men actually like.
The first thought of many women is that men prefer slim waists, large breasts, and an hourglass figure. A study performed in Australia shows that this may not be the case. 100 men were asked to rate the drawings of over 200 different female torsos, and the one with the highest rating had the most average-woman size.
This is in contrast to the study published in March that sought to quantify the ideal female body. In this study, the ratios that were most important to men were the bust-to-underbust ratio, waist-to-hip ration, and the bust-to-waist ration. However, there are good reasons to believe the earlier study rather than the more recent one:
• Better study design. In the new study, the torsos were line drawn figures that didn't take bust size into account, whereas in the earlier study, the figures were computer-modified figures derived from a real photograph. The earlier study looked not just at waist-to-hip-to-shoulder ratio, but also at breast size, torso length, and leg length.
• Larger sample size. The new study only surveyed 100 men where the earlier study utilized over 34,000 ratings.
• It better matches our real-world experience. If the majority of men liked so-called "average women," then sex symbols with these measurements would dominate.
These two different studies both suggest that men find certain aspects of women's bodies attractive. Regardless of the studies, however, the most attractive woman is one that is happy with the shape of her body.

Corset or Tummy Tuck: How to Get The Hourglass Figure You Desire - Wednesday, July 22, 2009
It seemed like corsets were a thing of the past, but recently they've made a big comeback. Beyonce, Britney Spears, and other singers regularly wear them on stage. Actresses from Salma Hayek to Megan Fox have donned them for the screen, not to mention Keira Knightley's Caribbean corset hat trick. Fashion models wear them not only for photo shoots, but are conspicuously cited in them at club parties. You may even have seen women wearing them to parties in Elkhart or Chicago.
The attraction of corsets is not just fashion, but what they can do for your figure. So, if you are looking a slim figure, you might wonder whether a corset or tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) might be the best way to slim your figure if diet and exercise just can't get you the hourglass figure you desire.
Corsets do have many advantages because they:
- Slim the waist and upper hips
- Push up the breasts
- Accentuate the buttocks
- Don't require surgery
- Leave no surgical scars
They do, however, have some drawbacks. The main drawback is that they only work with what you have. If you are achieving significant slimming or shaping with a corset, you're likely to have bulging elsewhere, especially back rolls above the corset. And achieving good cleavage with a corset may be at the cost of making your breasts appear smaller. Many women also find they need help to get full advantage out of a corset. And if your corset is too tight, it can make it hard to breathe.
Tummy tucks, on the other hand, also have many advantages:
- Permanent
- Tightens muscles
- Slims figure
- Complements breasts
- Can improve appearance in bathing suits and other outfits
If you're looking for a way to gain a slimmer body contour for just a special occasion or two, a corset might be enough. But a tummy tuck is best for women who want to look better every day. And remember that it isn't an either/or proposition. A tummy tuck or targeted liposuction might help you look better in a corset.

For Women Seeking Breast Enhancement Today, Breast Shape is as Important as Size - Sunday, July 05, 2009
Breast enhancement with breast implants is the most common cosmetic surgery performed in the country, but simply improving the size of the breasts isn't the main goal for most women seeking the surgery. Breast enhancement is effective not only in increasing the size of breasts, but can also improve their shape.
The cosmetic surgeons at The Centre, P.C. in Elkhart and Chesterton, Indiana want to make sure our patients are completely satisfied with their breast enhancement results. One of the ways they accomplish this is by taking all aspects of breast appearance into consideration.
Women come to our cosmetic surgery office to gain the breasts they want. Although most women want breast implants to increase the size of their breasts, they also want breasts that have a good, often natural, appearance. This means more than just placing breast implants to give them the size they want. Our breast enhancement patients have the ability to choose which size breast implants they will have as well as the profile of the implant itself. The profile determines the width and height of the implant that you desire.
With our excellent breast enhancement results, women can correct breast asymmetry along with many other breast problems. Whether your breasts simply appear too small for your body or if you want to correct a few different aspects of your breasts, we can help you gain the body contour you want.
If you live in the Elkhart, South Bend or Chesterton, Indiana area and you would like to change the appearance of your breasts, please contact the breast surgeons at The Centre, P.C. today to schedule your initial consultation.
