The terms "body contouring" and "body lift" are generally interchangeable and cover a number of procedures that produce a slimmer look overall or for certain parts of the anatomy. Body contouring procedures are often performed following bariatric surgery (gastric bypass) - or any substantial weight loss - to improve areas where the skin and tissue sag dramatically. Body contouring also is performed for persons who have not undergone significant weight loss, but who wish to eliminate problem areas. The procedures may include the removal of excess fat and tissue, as well as skin. Body contouring also includes removing these problem areas using liposuction to re-contour shape.
