Contour Thread Facelift

The Centre, P.C. offers the contour thread lift to patients in Elkhart and South Bend, Indiana, Michiana and the Southern Michigan area, and Chicago.

With a Contour Thread Lift, you can have the drooping tissues on your face and neck lifted to give you a fresh, rejuvenated look without undergoing an invasive facelift. A Contour Thread Lift is not a substitute for a traditional facelift, however. Rather, it offers patients a minimally invasive approach. If a patient has too much sagging, such changes cannot be corrected with a Contour Thread Lift.

In particular, the procedure can reposition sagging cheeks, lift sagging eyebrows, and adjust an asymmetric face and brows, as well as the neck area.

During a Contour Thread Lift, your cosmetic surgeon will insert special barbed threads under the skin; the threads help hold the skin in a lifted position. The threads are made of clear polypropylene, a material that has been safely used in the body for many years in other medical products.

It is a procedure that is performed in the office under local anesthesia. A Contour Thread Lift usually takes approximately an hour, depending on the number of threads used, and healing time is 5-7 days. In most cases, patients experience minimal discomfort, bruising and swelling. A return to work or normal activities usually occurs in a few days to one week.

What are these "barbed" threads?

Contour Threads™ are a type of suture, but instead of being smooth, they have tiny barbs or cogs that are evenly spaced. Under the skin, they are fixated in an umbrella-like fashion; the resulting tension creates suspension that gently lifts the sagging tissues.

Are there side effects?

A Contour Thread Lift is a simple procedure to perform. Complications are rare.

Is the procedure ever combined with other cosmetic procedures?

Sometimes, the plastic surgeon may elect to combine the procedure with botulinum toxin to reduce facial muscle activity, soft tissue fillers such as hyaluronic acid or fat to enhance volume, or peels and laser therapy to improve skin texture. Liposuction of the neck is another procedure that can be done with a Contour Thread Lift.

How long can I expect the results to last?

It depends on the age of the patient, the degree of sagging, and the number of threads used. The technique is entirely reversible, and unwanted effects are usually easily corrected under local anesthesia.

If I want a traditional facelift or a browlift in the future, will I still have that option?

Yes. The unique design of the contour threads allows a traditional facelift or browlift procedure when you are ready.
