Facelifts and Necklifts (rhytidectomy)
The Centre, P.C. offers the most advanced cosmetic surgery procedures, including facelift surgery, to patients in Elkhart and South Bend, Indiana, Michiana and the Southern Michigan area, and Chicago.
You may want to consider a variety of other procedures that may enhance your facelift. These include Restylane and BOTOX® Cosmetic. Your physician can provide additional details at your consultation.
The Centre, P.C. also recommends the use of the VitaMedica Surgery Program, a comprehensive pre- and post-surgery nutritional supplement system designed specifically for patients undergoing extensive surgical procedures, such as facelifts and necklifts.
One additional treatment options to consider is a Contour Thread Lift. Not a substitute for a traditional facelift, the Contour Thread Lift is a minimally invasive procedure that lifts the drooping tissues on your face and neck.
Facelift
A rhytidectomy, or facelift, is a surgical procedure used to help reduce the effects of aging as a result of gravity and sun exposure. The procedure helps to reduce the lines between the nose and mouth as well as fatty deposits around the neck; it also helps tighten the skin around the jawline. A facelift cannot stop the aging process, but it can reduce the signs of aging while making you look younger.
During a facelift, incisions are placed above the hairline near the temples and extend around the ear to the lower scalp. A small incision is placed under the chin if any tightening is needed in the neck area (necklift). The skin is separated from the underlying fat and muscle, excess fat is removed or suctioned to improve contour to the area. The surgeon will tighten the underlying muscles and membranes which may have lost elasticity over time. The skin is then pulled back into place and the excess skin is removed. All incisions are carefully closed, leaving you on your way to a more youthful appearance. Over time, your scars will fade and be scarcely noticeable.
In addition, The Centre, P.C. uses an autologous platelet gel during surgery, derived from the patient's own blood, to significantly reduce intraoperative bleeding and oozing, minimize bruising, decrease post-operative pain and speed healing.
Swelling and bruising will disappear over the course of two weeks. The final result will be evident in one to three months.
A facelift does not stop the aging clock, so you will continue to age with time. What it does is refirm and tighten the skin, giving you a more youthful and refreshed look which may last for years.
The best candidate for a facelift is a person who is experiencing a sagging appearance in the face and neck, but still has some skin elasticity. The average facelift patients are men and women in their 40s to 80s. Most facelift patients find a new sense of self-confidence after surgery while enjoying a younger-looking appearance.
Most of the visible signs of surgery should fade completely within about three weeks. Minor swelling and bruising can be concealed with special camouflage makeup. You may feel a bit tired and let down at first, but your energy level will increase and you will begin to look and feel better.
Mid-facelift
A cheek lift is also known as a mid-facelift. It is considered when there is a hollow or sunken appearance under the eyes and a deep nasolabial fold (skin around nose and mouth), also called marionette lines. The result is a more rested appearance and a more youthful facial contour.
The operation is performed on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. In a mid-facelift, most of the dissection is done in deeper tissues through a lower eyelid incision and occasionally a temporal incision. Loose neck skin is treated with the same incisions and dissection as in a standard facelift.
Patients return home with the head and neck wrapped in dressings, which are usually removed the next day. Sutures are removed within 10 days. Bruising and swelling usually decreases to “socially acceptable” levels in 10-20 days, but frequently lasts longer than standard lifts. The final result is evident in 4-6 weeks or sooner with continued improvement for several months.

Necklifts are ideal for persons who have localized deposits of fat in the anterior (forward) part of the neck, under the chin. If you have sagging in this area and want a more youthful neck with a better contour, a necklift may be the answer.
The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. The procedure may require an incision under the chin, behind the ears, or both. Fat is suctioned or excised, muscles may be tightened, and skin may be removed.
You will return home the same day with your chin and neck wrapped in dressings or in an elastic neck sling. Swelling and bruising will disappear over the course of two weeks. The final result will be evident in one to three months.

Forehead or Brow Lift
Another type of facial surgery is a forehead lift for a sagging forehead or brows that hang too low and too close to the eyes. A forehead lift gives a more youthful and rested appearance to the forehead and upper eyelids.
During this endoscopic procedure, several short incisions are placed in the hairline. The forehead skin is then lifted and repositioned; the muscles that cause frown lines are weakened. Sutures are removed within 10 days and most swelling and bruising is gone in 7-10 days.
Although you should be up and about in a day or two, plan on taking it easy for at least the first week after surgery. You should be able to shower and shampoo your hair within two days, or as soon as the bandage is removed. Most patients are back to work or school in a week to 10 days. Vigorous physical activity should be limited for several weeks, including jogging, bending, heavy housework, sex or any activity that increases your blood pressure. Prolonged exposure to heat or sun should be limited for several months.
