Q: Will my insurance cover gynecomastia?
A: Some insurance companies will pay for gynecomastia when it is medically necessary. When trying to have your surgery covered by your insurance company, we will need to submit photos along with a predetermination letter. Your insurance company will determine whether your surgery is covered based on many reasons. Each insurance company has different policies.
Q: Will I have scars?
A: Depending on the type of procedure your cosmetic surgeon is recommending and the amount of tissue needed to be removed, you can be left with a barely visible scar which will fade with time (such is the case with liposuction) or you could have a larger scar caused by skin removal. Check with your surgeon, who will explain to you where the incision is to be located and what to expect regarding possible scars.
Q: Will I lose feeling in my breast after surgery?
A: Breast sensation and numbness may occur after plastic surgery and last to up to a year or longer. In some cases feeling may never return.
Q: What are the risks associated with this surgery?
A: As with all procedures, there is always a possibility of certain risks and complications. Complications may include bleeding, infection or a reaction to anesthesia or medications. Noticeable scars can occur along with pigmentation changes and slightly mismatched breasts. Check with your surgeon to review all the risks associated with this procedure. You can reduce these risks by following your surgeon's instructions closely.
