The Food & Drug Administration announced in April that it has approved BOTOX® Cosmetic (Botulinum Toxin Type A) for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines, which are the vertical "frown" lines between the eyebrows. Aesthetic plastic surgeons have found that the type of lines and wrinkles that respond to BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are those caused by muscles that contract during facial expressions such as frowning or squinting. Most brow furrow lines are formed by excessive contraction of the two major muscles in the forehead. The FDA also noted that BOTOX® Cosmetic should be used carefully under medical supervision.
