Elkhart, IN — Women who are contemplating breast surgery, either reconstructive or cosmetic, often want to know—as much as possible—what the final results will look like. Until now, plastic surgeons were limited to verbal descriptions, sketching out the potential results, or perhaps using a computer-generated, two-dimensional image to give an indication of what the patient would look like. But working in two dimensions leaves a lot to be desired when the subject—the human body—is three-dimensional.

Today, the future of plastic surgery has arrived. With new 3D Imaging technology, breast surgery patients and their surgeon at The Centre, P.C. can choose the right look by actually visualizing potential, three-dimensional outcomes before the procedure. The ability to capture a 3D preoperative image and compare it to a 3D postoperative image is an extremely powerful tool for achieving the most accurate outcome possible.

An incredible leap forward from two-dimensional photographs and images, 3D Imaging technology is used primarily for breast surgery at this time, although it also has applications for the face and other areas. 3D Imaging provides the surgeon with data not previously available, such as breast asymmetry and volume, by digitally measuring the difference between a person’s current shape and the desired shape.

What happens during a 3D Imaging session? First, The Centre, P.C.’s imaging consultant digitally captures the 3D image. Then the patient and surgeon work together to sculpt a new look. “Before” and “after” images can then be compared to fine tune the desired results.

How long does it take to capture a 3D image? The 3D imaging technology acquired by The Centre, P.C. is designed to achieve previously unprecedented “capture times” as low as 0.002 seconds, unlike most 3D scanning technology, which requires a number of seconds to acquire the data. Such superfast capture times eliminate the errors that can be caused by even slight movements. Depending on the procedure, the technology uses up to 144 digital cameras that shutter simultaneously. All camera views then merge to produce a single image.

With 3D Imaging, patients now can achieve confidence, comfort and peace of mind even before the surgery.
