10 Skin Care Guidelines to Maintain Younger-Looking Skin
The Centre, P.C. offers skin care products and treatments to patients in Elkhart and South Bend, Indiana, Michiana and the Southern Michigan area, and Chicago.
In addition to following the Broad Spectrum Antioxidant program, you can maintain younger-looking skin by adopting the following habits.
- Stay out of the sun. The sun ages our skin more than any other factor. Try to stay out of the sun during peak hours (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and wear protective clothing. If outdoors, use a high-quality sun protection factor (SPF). Your Skin Care Professional can recommend the product that is right for you.
- Be aware of facial expressions. Repetitive facial expressions cause frown lines that give the appearance of looking older. Speak with your physician or Skin Care Professional at The Centre, P.C. regarding treatments such as BOTOX Cosmetic®, Restylane and Radiesse. VitaMedica products that may prove helpful include the hyluranic and dermal oral supplements.
- Hydrate your body. It is important to drink at least eight glasses of high-quality water every day. This helps to clean and hydrate your body. Remember, long hot showers and baths dry out the skin. Be sure to moisturize after bathing, while your skin is still damp. If you live in a dry climate, consider a humidifier.
- Take a multivitamin and essential fatty acid supplement. It is difficult to obtain all the essential nutrients needed to maintain optimal skin health. A high-potency multivitamin from VitaMedica fills in the gaps where diet leaves off. Essential fatty acids provide high-quality oils to the cells and internally lubricate the skin.
- Exercise regularly. In addition to making you feel good, exercise increases circulation to the skin, allowing for nutrient delivery and the removal of toxins. Exercise also increases oil and sweat production, keeping the skin supple.
- Get enough sleep. Too little sleep leads to skin that looks sallow and contributes to puffiness around the eyes. Be aware of your sleep positions - the best is lying on your back.
- Promote intestinal health. Friendly intestinal bacteria such as acidophilus and bifidobacterium promote skin health by detoxifying the GI tract and enhancing nutrient absorption. Foods such as yogurt and milk products fortified with beneficial bacteria are good sources.
- Consider an internal cleansing program. Although your body daily rids itself of toxins, over time these build up in your system. A two- to three-day juice fast provides an excellent opportunity for your body to cleanse and rejuvenate.
- If you smoke - stop now. Aside from all the health problems it creates, smoking looks unattractive, creates wrinkles (especially around the mouth), and causes the skin to look sallow and fingernails to turn yellow.
- Limit your alcohol and caffeine intake. Both alcohol and caffeine dehydrate the body, contributing to dry skin. Alcohol also contributes to broken capillaries and interferes with nutrition metabolism.
